GIVE A WARM WELCOME

Having a warm and welcoming atmosphere in your home could be the most distinguishing factor in creating a beautiful home.  True! The design may be incredibly inspirational and include all the latest upgrades, but ultimate luxury is making all its inhabitants and visitors feel good and say you want them there!

Let the slideshow and tips below both inspire and help you create a warm and welcoming home environment for your family, your friends and for yourself, too!

5 TOP TIPS TO CREATE A WARM & WELCOMING ATMOSPHERE IN YOUR HOME

Below are 5 top tips to create an atmosphere that says “Welcome Home” to your family and friends every day. All the tips are very simple and can be incorporated into your day quickly with little expense or effort – just a mindset to do so.

1. GREET EVERYONE WITH A SMILE.

Being greeted with a smile can do wonders for one’s mood – and a kiss and hug is even better (depending on your relationship of course!). Science says there is a real health benefit to hugging! Perhaps your warm greeting will become contagious and everyone will greet each other that way in your home.

Those goodbyes count as well! Send a positive message to your family members as they are leaving for the day and tell your visitors how much it meant to see them. Taking the time to express these feelings is always heartwarming and meaningful.

Don’t miss this: First impressions do count.  Find some great tips to make your first impression a great one here.

2. LET THERE BE LIGHT.

Create a welcoming air by lighting a candle or two, turning on some lamps or lighting a fire!  Illuminate your mood and your spaces with plenty of soft light.

Installing dimmers on your light switches is a fairly inexpensive upgrade and allows you to set the feeling you like.  Task lighting that requires bright light is not the lighting you want to illuminate a space where you want to share a glass of wine with your family and friends in the evening.

Timers set to turn on your outside lights as well as your entry lighting when you normally arrive home can be a nice welcoming idea for your family and for you.  There are plenty of apps to control all kinds of things like turning on lights and even adjusting your thermostat, too.

3. PLAY MUSIC!

Music has an enormous influence on our moods! Play some music for the mood you want to set.

Our family plays music a lot and has especially made a habit of playing music during our family dinner hour with no cell phones in sight to signal family time and to focus on each other for that time period.

4. KEEP SUPPLIES ON HAND.

Food is always welcoming! A fridge or panty with a few healthy offerings to hold everyone over before dinner or if someone pops by for a visit is always a good practice.

If you are lucky enough to have a guest room, make up the bed with fresh sheets and towels in the room before your guests arrive. This is so much more welcoming than fumbling around for sheets at the last minute in front of your guests.  If you don’t have a guest room, a basket with fresh towels, some toiletries, etc. ready for them is a nice touch as well.

5. FRESH SCENT IS ALWAYS BEST.

Every home has a certain unique smell – makes yours unique in a good way. Here are 3 tips to keep it fresh and not overly fragrant that could aggravate allergies and fill your home with toxic fragrances:

  1. Open doors and windows on a regular basis to allow for best air circulation.  Fresh air in, stale air out!
  2. Treat yourself to fresh flowers by your entry to view and smell when you step through the door and incorporate air-cleaning plants in your spaces.
  3. Choose a light-scented essential oil to diffuse.
