The information below should spell out why detoxing your laundry room is something to place at the top of your to-do list:
1. MANY DETERGENT INGREDIENTS ARE HARMFUL TO OUR HEALTH.
Chemicals like chlorine, phosphates, nonylphenol (NP), and other ingredients that turn into harmful chemicals really do not belong in something we have contact with through our skin every minute of our every day!
Some detergents contain surfants that can cause cancer and reproductive disorders. When these surfactants are used, they release benzene into the environment, which is the toxin believed to be a carcinogen. In fact, many chemicals in commercially branded laundry detergents have no need. They are merely added so that our clothes will appear whiter o
r brighter. But there are much safer ways to achieve that, which I go into further down.
2. ADDED FRAGRANCES SMELL NICE BUT AT A GREAT COST.
There are better ways to get those great-smelling clothes. Besides, many people build up an allergy to the perfumes and dyes used in some detergents. Organic or chemical-free methods do not use these.

3. OUR ENVIRONMENT IS ADVERSELY AFFECTED.
The phosphates that are in many commercial detergents are a known water pollutant and are considered by many to kill fish and plants, which throws our entire ecological system out of balance.
4. THE CHEMICAL EXPOSURE DOES NOT END WITH THE WASH CYCLE.
Fumes you inhale from the just dried clothes washed with commercial detergents that have fragrance can be an irritant to your respiratory system long after the wash is done.
5. DRY CLEANERS COST YOU.
Dry cleaners are notoriously expensive but I am not just talking about your bank account. The chemicals used to dry clean clothes cost you your health as they are very harmful. Seek out an organic dry cleaner in your area if you need to use one.
Stacy – I am so glad you found the information helpful and I am glad to meet another “health-minded” one like yourself! I do appreciate you taking the time to comment and introducing yourself. I would love to learn other ways you stay health-minded as well. Come back and tell me more!
These are some great tips. I havnt written specifically about detoxing the laundry room but for sure there are many tonget rid of and it’s not that hard when you make the changes like you mention. Laundry detergent and dry sheets were the first to change when my daughters were babies because they had eczema. That’s was when I first learned how toxins can affect our health. I’ll take a look around the rest of your blog. I just came across your site and this post on Pinterest . I’ll save this and share it on Facebook. It’s great finding other like minded bloggers. Keep up the great work!
